Superintendent's Message

superintendent

Brandon School District is once again preparing for the conclusion of another school year. Spring came early this year and with spring comes preparations for prom and graduation. In the last couple of weeks we have celebrated our students who are actively involved in volunteering in our community and in other parts of the state and country.  At a breakfast on Wednesday this week the Brandon High School recognized its student leaders.   Honors night recognition will be on May 17 and graduation June 10. As the superintendent of this district I can never say often enough how privileged we are to have such fine students and staff in our schools.

As you are aware during the winter the district did an audit to fully understand how our community wants to hear from us. We very much appreciate all those who participated and are now in the process of turning your input into a communications plan that will be fully operational when we return to school in September.

The Brandon Board of Education is proud to share with everyone the new vision statement and three goals adopted January 16, 2012, that will guide our decision making for instruction and sound fiscal management. Maintaining the integrity of learning that happens in our schools will always be our top priority.

Our Vision: In partnership with family and community, Brandon School District  strives to be at the forefront of educational excellence, preparing our students to be successful, productive citizens.

Goals:   1) Improve student achievement in Grades K-12.

            2) Ensure responsible fiscal stewardship.

            3) Improve district communication.

In the fall I told you about the AdvancEd accreditation visitation. In February we hosted three educators from AdvancEd for three days. At the end of their visit they told us that Brandon School District would be recommended for District Accreditation. Only a small number of other districts in Michigan share this honor.

Brandon School District has always been a great place to learn and achieve. Even with the recent financial hardship it will continue to be great. We will keep all our students first and foremost in our decision making, planning carefully for the future while continuing to be committed to an excellent education.

Sincerely,

Lorraine McMahon, Superintendent of Schools
