A Message from the Brandon Board of Education

December 7, 2021

Dear Brandon School Parents, Families and Community:

On the afternoon of Monday, December 6, 2021, the Board of Education received the resignation of Interim Superintendent Dr. Karl Heidrich as he plans to retire as of January 1, 2022.

To ensure continued leadership within, and operations of, the School District, the Board of Education has acted swiftly to appoint Dan Stevens as the Acting Superintendent during this time until determinations are made for establishing an interim/permanent superintendent and Mr. Stevens graciously accepted this role. Mr. Stevens has been a leader in our District as our High School Principal for many years and has significant knowledge of the School District.

The Brandon Board of Education has started the process to identify the needs of our District and evaluating potential candidates to serve as an interim/permanent superintendent to lead us through this 2021-2022 school year and thereafter.

Parents and community member please direct any and all immediate communications directly to Acting Superintendent Stevens by email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or his executive assistant Maria Schubring at 248-627-1802 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., who will forward them to Mr. Stevens.

We recognize these circumstances arise during already tumultuous events and create many questions, concerns, and anxiety for all of us. No words adequately express our appreciation for our staff and administrators’ strength, fortitude, and care for the safety and well-being of one another and our children.

There will be more updates as we navigate this process. We thank all of you for your resilience, patience and support of our Brandon School community.

Sincerely,

The Brandon School Board of Education

Lisa Kavalhuna, Diane Salter, Melissa Clark, Kim Smith-Kulaga, Rebecca Haynes, Hilary Stockoski and Jeff Zielke
