Good evening OES families! I hope you are all doing well as we begin our second week of distance learning. Our staff is working hard and tweaking things along the way as necessary. We would like to thank all of you for your cooperation, patience and feedback. You have all been amazing! Here is the latest news and information.

Guidelines and expectations for student success during distance learning:

In order to keep track of student participation and to ensure to our best ability that continuous learning is occurring, here are the guidelines all JK-5th grade staff will use during the distance learning time period.
  • Students will connect in real time at least twice a week through Zoom.  If a student can’t Zoom two times a week, teachers and parents will collaborate to determine a good alternative for connecting.
  • Students will meet the minimum standard of no less than 60% of the anytime learning activities each week.
  • Each classroom teacher will be communicating their weekly anytime learning expectations to parents.
  • Students and families will receive weekly feedback on student progress in a format that will be communicated by each classroom teacher.
  • Specials teachers will not be assessing students during these nine weeks of distance learning, but will enjoy meeting with students each week, giving feedback, and providing anytime learning opportunities.
Specials update:

You will notice that our specials teachers combined all of their links on a one page document. We hope having this information in one spot is helpful for your children.

Morning announcements and Pledge of Allegiance:
  • It has been really fun to meet with our families via Facebook live each morning at 8:15. If you do not have Facebook, the announcements are posted each morning on the Oakwood page on the Brandon School District website.
  • I post a video each morning of students saying the pledge to start our day. You can email me your video at cstewart@brandon.k12.mi.us and I will use it in an upcoming morning announcement.

5th Grade Mackinac trip refunds:

Unfortunately, we have had to cancel this year's trip to Mackinac for our 5th graders. Your child's teacher emailed all 5th grade families a Google Form survey to help us organize the issuing of refund checks. Please complete the survey by this Friday, April 24 and your reimbursement should arrive in approximately 3 weeks. Notify your child's teacher if you did not receive the survey.

Have a wonderful week of learning and connecting with your teachers and classmates!
