Good evening Oakwood families! Today concludes week #7 of our distance learning, leaving 2 more weeks to go. It has been quite an adventure! There are some important notes below as the school year comes to a close. Please contact me if you have any questions about anything as we wrap things up before the summer.

Pick up belongings and drop off materials ~ Our staff has been busy cleaning out the classrooms and gathering students’ belongings.  We have scheduled a day for families to come to Oakwood to drive through to pick up belongings and drop off any materials you may have. This will be a drive through only event and to maintain a safe environment for all, we ask that families stay in cars, and allow staff to approach the vehicle to hand off items and take items that are being returned. Please have your children look through their belongings to see if they have any library or classroom books or other items that need to be returned. Please check this map to see where you can find the teacher you need to visit to pick up and drop off. If you do not see your child’s teacher’s name, that means that she plans to come and personally drop the items off and pick up any library books or other items that you need to return. The exception to that is the Chromebook(s) that you may have borrowed. Second through fifth graders will keep their Chromebook to use next school year. Kinderhawks, Kindergarteners, and first graders need to return Chromebooks that were borrowed for distance learning. Even if your child’s teacher is delivering other items to your home, teachers cannot collect Chromebooks. They need to be dropped off on June 10th to our technology staff, who will be at the front entrance of the school from 3:00-6:00 (see map).

Enrollment for 2020-2021 ~ Do you have a new Blackhawk to enroll for next school year or know someone who does? It’s never been easier to enroll. This link will take you to our website to begin our pre-enrollment process. Complete this and someone will contact you to complete your child’s enrollment. We are enrolling all grade levels for the 2020-2021 school year right now! Spread the word!

Parent Survey ~ During this most unusual time, it is unclear what our classes will look like in the fall. We do know that whatever the final model looks like, your input is so very important. Dr. Outlaw sent out a survey that has received an amazing response, and we want to hear from anyone who hasn’t yet replied. Please complete the survey or contact me at cstewart@brandon.k12.mi.us or 248-627-1880 ext. 1960 if you need the link. Your feedback will help us design a model for fall 2020-2021 that will provide the best education for our kids all the while keeping everyone’s health and well-being the most important thing.

Virtual Career Awareness Day Friday, June 5th ~ Career Awareness Day was such a success last year and we look forward to continuing the tradition virtually this year.  The committee is currently finishing up final plans and we will share the details with you soon.

Love and Logic Training ~ As a parent, we all need some strategies as we guide and parent our children. There is a 6 session Love and Logic parenting discussion that will start mid-June. If you’re interested in attending this discussion with other parents and a trained facilitator, register by June 11th. Here is the Love and Logic class flyer for more detailed information and registration form.

Facebook ~ During this Covid-19 school closure and shift to distance learning, our Oakwood Elementary Brandon Facebook page has really become an important tool for us all to stay connected. If you haven't followed us or liked our page, please click here and be a part of what's going on!

Have a wonderful weekend, and check us out on our Facebook feed on Monday, June 1st for our morning announcements at 8:15 a.m. where we will announce the winner and runner up in our Quarantine Family Photo Contest! Thank you to all who entered!
